Tina Turner has lived a quiet life in the charming Swiss town of Küsnacht, her home for decades.
The legendary Tennessee-born singer, who died of natural causes at the age of 83 on Wednesday, moved to town after she started dating music executive Erwin Bach.
The couple met in Germany in 1986 and moved to Switzerland together in 1994 after Bach got a job managing the Swiss offices of EMI Records.
They married in 2013, and Turner gave up his American passport that year, allowing him to buy property in his new hometown. (Switzerland has restricted non-residents from buying real estate since the 1960s.)
In early 2022, less than two years before his death, the “Best” actress and her husband spent $76 million on a large piece of land in Küsnacht overlooking Lake Zurich.
The massive property features 10 different structures spread across five acres, as well as a swimming pool, boat deck and its own private pond.
Küsnacht allowed Turner to live life as an ordinary citizen and was often seen “doing his own shopping, waiting in line at the post office, and exercising outside,” according to the New York Times.
Despite being one of the world’s most famous entertainers, Turner was known as a down-to-earth person in the sleepy hamlet.
“He was a jovial, very open and kind hearted person,” Severin Silvestri, a manager at Rico’s, where Turner and Bach often dined, told the newspaper.
“He was smiling as he passed. He could sense we were looking at him, but he was always very cautious,” she said.
And the Grammy winner was a generous philanthropist for his adopted hometown.
On her 75th birthday in 2014, she donated a public Christmas light show lit with gold wreaths and a rescue boat named “Tina” who was christened that year.

Tina – who was adopted Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame As a solo artist in 2021 – he has sold over 100 million records worldwide during his career, with songs including the hit song “The Best” and his solo comeback single “What’s Love Got to Do With It”.
It recorded the first and only #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the song that started the resurgence of her career in the 1980s.
Tina was 44 at the time, making her the oldest solo female artist to top the Hot 100 chart.
The singer and actress has won a total of 12 Grammy Awards, including eight competitive awards, three Grammy Hall of Fame awards, and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

Swiss music producer Roland Roller Frei, who worked with the “Proud Mary” singer, believes that relative anonymity is what he enjoys most.
“I think it’s important for him to find a place to be alone,” he told the Times, adding, “I think he appreciates the fact that he’s not bothered by his fans every day, but can have fun.” Retire in peace.”
In 2014, Turner told a Swiss journalist that one of the things he loves about living in the European country famous for its Alps is “fresh air,” and “I feel like I’m breathing clean and really clean air.”
He also stated that he felt safe enough to be in public without security.
Following the news of his death, locals stopped by Turner’s home to drop flowers and pay their respects.
