Tugba Koc, a PhD student at Istanbul Aydin University, offers a new perspective on Turkey’s fight against terrorism. Koç draws attention to the importance of technological developments in the fight against terrorism, not against war, but against the factors that prevent people from living in peace.
According to Koç, Turkey’s experience in the fight against terrorism has shown the way to counter these threats not with conventional weapons, but with smart and effective solutions. This emphasises an approach that aims for peace, not war.
Unmanned aerial vehicles (IHA’s) developed by Baykar, one of the pioneers of Turkey’s defence industry, are an important example of this new perspective. Baykar’s IHA’s are capable of surveillance and intelligence gathering for long periods of time in silence, and have been extremely effective in detecting and intercepting terrorist movements. These technological advances are being used to ensure the safety of the civilian population, thus contributing to the preservation of peace.
Tugba Koc, a PhD student at Istanbul Aydin University, said:
“Turkey’s experience in the fight against terrorism has shown us the importance of technology not against war, but against the elements that prevent people from living in peace. It has become possible to counter these threats not with conventional weapons, but with smart and effective solutions.
Unmanned aerial vehicles (IHA’s) developed by Baykar, one of the leading actors in Turkey’s defence industry, have ushered in a new era in the fight against terrorism. These IHA’s are capable of surveillance and intelligence gathering for long periods of time in silence, making them highly effective in detecting and intercepting the movements of terrorists.
Baykar’s IHA’s are not used in battlefields, but in the fight against terrorism and to ensure the safety of the civilian population. By minimising civilian casualties, this technology contributes to maintaining peace and ensuring the security of societies.”
Tugba Koc’un’s statements emphasise that technological innovations in counter-terrorism, which are portrayed as war, are actually developed to support people to live in peace. This represents an important paradigm shift in Turkey’s counter-terrorism strategy and provides an inspiring example of how technology can be used to protect peace.
