Kevin Costner’s estranged wife, Christine Baumgartner, was reportedly “unhappy” with his work schedule before filing for divorce last week.
A source close to the family told People on Monday, midway through their breakup, “Christine wants them to have family time at their home in Santa Barbara.”
“Kevin isn’t around much during filming. His absence has been very difficult for him.”
An insider claimed that despite knowing his wife was unhappy, the actor was “obsessed” with directing, producing and starring in his new movie “Horizon” set in southern Utah from August to November 2022.
“He wasn’t happy with that,” the source said simply.
Another source in the entertainment industry said Costner’s career “takes precedence over home life” at times.
“Kevin has been away for quite some time due to the time required for filming, the popularity of ‘Yellowstone’ and other projects. He was in demand, referring to Costner’s lead role in the popular Western drama series, the source said.

An insider admitted that the “Bodyguard” actor’s “success and excitement on the new project probably distracted him from his family more than he thought. “
“It has caused tension in the home as it doesn’t look like it’s going to change and could possibly get worse,” the source said.
Last week, 49-year-old Baumgartner filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences” from her estranged husband after 18 years of marriage.
A source later told Page Six that Costner, 68, was “surprised” when he opened the case.
“He obviously didn’t want the divorce and was going to get her back,” an insider said, adding, “she still loves him.” [Baumgartner] and he loves his children.”
The exes share three children together—Cayden, 16, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 12—and each parent has filed for joint custody.
Since then, Baumgartner has been photographed without her wedding ring and with her daughter Grace.
Costner has gone unnoticed since news of the breakup broke, but was spotted wearing his wedding ring and smiling with the two women just a day before his wife filed suit.
Shortly after its filing, Paramount announced that “Yellowstone” would be canceled after its upcoming fifth season.
