If I know absolutely nothing, how could I ever pick one movie over the next? However, I am satisfied with an ecstatic recommendation. If I have been assured that the movie (or band or book) is worth seeing by someone whose opinions I respect, I don’t need to know any more. Likewise if I’m about to watch a movie that’s already been chosen. What benefit would I get from reading the back and knowing the plot before it begins? I prefer to watch a movie with as little expectations as possible that way I can determine what I think of it, not what everyone on Rotten Tomatoes thinks. This is my way of enjoying a movie without letting poseurphobia sneak its ugly influence into my experience. I think that reading so many reviews beforehand 1) changes your experience and 2) sometimes prevents you from seeing movies you might enjoy.
