You must be under 25 or not understand what a cult film is or Rocky Horor would be number 1. What other film keps them packing in after 25 years? (and in case you’ve never seen it, yes, it is a SF film)

JOI both pictures are good, they are long but Metropolis is the foundation of many movies, like the Beattles or The Rolling Stones are to Music, Metropolis is to certain kinds of genre movies. Dune – good concept but dreadful movie (especially if you consider the book). Buckeroo Banzai – really?! What about Alien, or Solaris? And I’m assuming ‘cult’ means you couldn’t include The Terminator or Close Encounters, but The Day The Earth Stood Still is probably more significant than Rollerball. Stll, quite thouht-provoking.

Your Logan’s Run story is for a remake they are filming now, with younger cast. In original they lived till 30

The Top Ten List defined the list criteria as “cult classics”.
A cult film is one without wide mainstream appeal and yet enjoys a small but highly devoted following.
One thing I notice about the list is that none of them have sequals (with the exception of Escape from New York, I think). Alien has not one but many sequels, denoting strong mainstream appeal, and therefore while it may have fans, they are not “limited” to a small cult of fans.
You referred to The Day the Earth Stood Still as “more significant” than Rollerball. Maybe. But that would fall under the Top Ten Most Significant SciFi Movies List. (hint hint)
BTW. Without giving away too much, my online passwords are all based on characters from Buckaroo Banzai.

I agree with SirSpellingWellingBee. Most of these are not cult movies. The Lathe of Heaven that was on PBS about 30 plus yrs ago qualifies *imho*.
