Top 10 Places Any Geek Must See

The time of geek-dom has arrive. Gone are the days when women cringe at the thought of being seen with a guy who wears nothing but black t-shirt, tattered Levi’s, and worn-out chucks.

First, Bill Gates climbed to the top of the World’s Wealthiest list. Then Google decided to become the coolest company in the world. Followed by Mark Zuckerberg whose sarcasm, brilliance and youth became the perfect epitome of coolness.

So, if you feel in your bones you really are a geek, you should check these places out. Do not let the this season of Fringe pass by without you seeing these places.

10. Kennedy Space Center, Orlando, Florida

There is nowhere else in the world where you can see thousands of pounds worth of solid rocket fuel ignite to throw actual human beings outside of this world where they will float among all the other heavenly bodies in the vastness of universe. Pure geek nirvana.

Cape Canaveral will let you witness it. It only happens couple of times a year so you should never miss the next opportunity. NASA has the schedule of shuttle and rocket launches on its Website.

There is also the opportunity to see history up close and personal with their museum where almost each rocket they used and launched, lunar landers, Saturn V rockets, bits of moon rock, etc. are displayed.

9. The American Classic Arcade Museum

At 579 Endicott Street North, you’ll find the world’s largest collection of classic arcade games, from pre-war pinball machines, through Pac Man, and up to Time Crisis 3.

Yes, Pac Man! The coolest, most awesome computer game of all time. And only the true blue geeks will agree with me. If you are brave enough, try out the Donkey Kong. I think Steve Weibe holds the record with a million points.

You will also find written, audio, video and electronic data about the history of coin-operated games and the people who created them, making this a mecca for retro gaming fans.

8. Computer History Museum

If you know what Atanasoff-Berry Computer is, the machine responsible for the “dis-invention of the computer”, this is the place for you.

Here you will discover that before Pentium, there was 586. Before 586, there was PDP-1. Before PDP-1, there was Charles Babbage.

7. Comic Con

Because any Geek knows that this world sucks and we need heroes to save it. And there aren’t any real life Batmans and Supermans, so it is necessary to make them up. Thus, the comics.

So make sure you don’t miss the traveling geeks who are supposed to be raising awareness about the contribution of comics to literature.

Actually, it’s just an excuse for geeks to volt in.

6. Titan Missile Museum

See the frontline of the Cold War. The Titan Missile Museum is the only publicly accessible Titan II missile site in the nation. Tour the underground missile site. See the 3-ton blast doors, the 8-foot thick silo walls, and an actual Titan II missile in the launch duct. Visit the launch control center, experience a simulated launch and more!
