Beating a fan… fighting with other bands… destroying the guitars… those are pretty much a routine for rock bands. So let’s talk about other outrageous things rock stars do on stage.

And when I say outrageous, I mean, it’ll take you several seconds to believe it actually happened.

10. Jimi Hendrix sets guitar on fire.

The Beatles were well-behaved during the height of their fame. At one point, George Harrison said they were the Spice Girls of their time. Maybe.

Jimi Hendrix was the exact opposite. He started the “rock theater” phase. One of his most popular antics was setting his guitar on fire on stage. Then, he slammed it around until nothing was left of it.

9. Sid Vicious and Marilyn Manson

I almost didn’t include these two because their regular gigs were regularly outrageous. However, we can’t exclude them in this list just because they have turned it into habit, right? Besides, I don’t want you guys to curse me for skipping their badassery.

Sid, was deep into drugs from the beginning of his career ‘till its end. At one point, he was so high on drugs, he just slept on stage.

On the other hand, Marilyn Manson cut himself, in the nipple area in particular.

8. Eric Clapton does a concert lying down.

Eric was a heroine addict in the 60s. According to Patty Boyd, his ex wife, it started when he fell in love with her but she was still married to George Harrison of The Beatles. To force her into being with him, he threatened to take heroine.

He called his own bluff. When she refused to go with him, he started taking drugs until he was so deep into it, he couldn’t stop even when she was already with him. Despite his addiction, he remained flawless in his music that at one point, he did an entire concert lying down.

He managed to go down to alcoholism when he stopped taking drugs though. Unfortunately, there is no video of that concert but he did talk about it in on his interviews.

7. Mike Patton of Faith No More eats a shoelace and asks the audience to spit on his mouth.

He did so many outrageous things such as urinate on the audience, spit on the audience, beat up an audience, ate the shoelace of an audience, and took his clothes off. He set the bar high.

Surprising because I didn’t really know of this band until today and if you look at this guy, he doesn’t look deranged.

6. Jim Morrison exposes his crotch.

Jim Morrison took the stage at Miami’s Dinner Key Auditorium, mumbled his way through a couple songs and realized that the audience was getting bored and frustrated with his awful performance. To make up for it, he said, “Do you wanna see my cock?”

The rest, as they say, is rock & roll history. The incident was hyped up and the Miami D.A. charged Morrison with a felony count of “lewd and lascivious” plus three misdemeanor counts including indecent exposure.

Morrison didn’t regard the incident with any importance, he would rather comment on his haircut.
