These musicians must be suicidal!
Here are some of the greatest but saddest melodies and lyrics ever penned.
May you never have to feel the need to sing these songs but if you do… sing out loud and sing out proud. Cheers!
10. Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen (revived) by Jeff Buckley
The Lines That Break:
Well maybe there’s a God above
But all I’ve ever learned from love
Was how to shoot somebody who’d out drew yeah
It’s a cold and it’s a broken Hallelujah.
The Story:
This is now even sadder than originally intended because of the freaky death of the man who popularized it. You love a girl enough to consider her God’s proof of His existence but girl hurts you enough to make you stop believing in love and anything powerful. You must have been fucked big time.
The Victim:
Once hopeful innocent man who accidentally fell in love
9. Send In the Clowns by Stephen Sondheim
The Lines That Break:
Making my entrance again
With my usual flair
Sure of my lines
No one is there.
The Story:
Oh shut up. I know it’s cheesy but it’s misery expressed in what is, perhaps, the greatest irony in history. Send them clowns.
The Victim:
A white funny face with a permanent red grin.
8. I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry (revived) by Elvis
The Lines That Break:
Hear that lonesome winter bird
he sounds too blue to fly
I’m so lonesome I could cry
The Story:
This is usually one of the last few songs Elvis sings during his concert and it was allegedly the song he sang after learning from Lisa Marie that Priscilla just left him for his Karate instructor. Sad in big bold letters.
The Victim:
Elvis Presley and just about every guy dumped by a woman.
7. I Don’t Have The Heart by James Ingram
The Lines That Break:
I don’t have the heart to love you
not the way you want me to.
The Story:
I know rocks, garbage and curses are coming my way for even being aware of the existence of this song but I can’t help it, it’s a tearjerker. When someone tells you they can’t love you, it’s not only sad, it’s tragic.
The Victim:
A girl who just had her confidence crushed into pieces.
6. No Surprises by Radiohead
The Lines That Break:
I’ll take a quiet life
A handshake, some carbon monoxide
The Story:
The writer of the song and the singer must have had some issues man. You can just feel the creepy hand of suicide slowly taking a grip on these people.
The Victim:
Souls with a miserable job, miserable past and miserable heart.
