5 Final Fantasy VII

It may be strange to see a game that is adored by millions of gamers to be in the overrated games list. However, any gamer who has played the earlier versions of Final Fantasy will agree that Final Fantasy VII made it big mainly because of multi-million dollar marketing campaign that preceded its release and the cutting-edge graphics it used. Game wise, the other Final Fantasy games offer more in terms of characters and storylines.

4. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty

When the demo for Sons of Liberty was released, gamers and critics alike were wowed by the wonderful cinematic scenes and the innovations it seemed to have made in the fighting styles. No effort was spared in the marketing of the game either with Sons of Liberty setting an all time pre-sales record. However, on release, players were highly disappointed with the changes in some of their favorite characters, bizarre storylines and the unusually long time it took to play the fancy cinematic scenes.

3. Enter the Matrix

Released at the same time as the movie The Matrix Reloaded, this game sold millions and millions of copies. For Matrix fans, there is a lot to enjoy but from a sheer gaming perspective, the graphics are terrible, there are no special fighting skills included and just too many bugs to name.

2. Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness

When Lara Croft Tomb Raider first came on the scene, the game offered something refreshing and new – Lara Croft caught the imagination of an entire generation of gamers turning them into ardent fans. If not for them it is hard to understand the popularity of Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness. Facing serious problems in the code, the game had poorly designed levels and clunky controls. Certainly overrated when compared to the predecessor.
