Top 10 Iconic Photos of Iconic People

A photo is nothing more than a captured moment in a person’s life. It is not supposed to encapsulate a person’s whole life or entire personality but sometimes there are photos that tell more than a moment.

The photos below have done that. These photos have, in fact, been used to represent how the world sees a person or how the person projects himself to the world. Most these photographs have been well used too.

Here are my favorites.

10. Al Capone

Photographer: Unknown

A real life gangster, Al Capone was known for his love of booze and the lack of respect for human life and human rights. He didn’t have any qualms when it comes to killing or torturing people in the interest of protecting his business. This photo clearly projects his happy go lucky and ruthless personality. Here you can see the joy behind his guts.

9. Demi Moore

Photographer: Annie Leibovitz

This 1991 Vanity Fair cover was a revolutionary move for all women and especially for all pregnant women. She was the very first one to ever pose naked while pregnant. This, as a result, finally projected pregnancy as sexy. She is genetically blessed and she used that to make pregnancy hot. This has also become Demi’s “coming out” party to the world. From here on, everyone knew she was fearless, bold and unconventional.

8. Steve Jobs

Photographer: Unknown

Steve Jobs is known for being a perfectionist and his fearlessness. When he can’t come up with something perfect, his courage takes over that drives him to release products even with incomplete functionalities. What his products lack in features, he makes up with flair. Whenever he releases new products, he calls in the press (like many other product launches) and personally presents it. There is nothing extraordinary about his presentations, just him and his words… words that are carefully chosen to put you in trance and transport you in a universe where Apple reigns supreme.

His audaciousness in marketing is the total opposite of his fashion and lifestyle. He is known for getting by with the most basic of things. His standard attire is blue jeans and a black turtle neck top. This photo captures his simplicity. When it all comes down to it, it’s just him and his brilliance.

7. Winston Churchill

Photographer: Yousuf Karsh

Winston Churchill is one of the most respected Prime Minister in Britain having taken office during the World War II. He was widely credited with being one of the strategic masterminds that made the Allied victory possible. Churchill was also a prolific writer and won the Nobel Prize for Literature.

This photo was taken by Karsh after the photographer had annoyed Churchill by taking away his cigar. The expression in Chruchill’s face here, many believe, captures how he is most of the time at work. He is serious and irritated.

6. Albert Einstein

Photographer: Arthur Sasse

Einstein is known for putting forward theories that affected modern science. This particular photo affected the image of geeks for the rest of time.

This was taken during Einstein’s 72nd birthday. He was in Princeton campus and was hoping to spend the day in peace but reporters kept on hounding him for a photo. When Sasse asked him for “one more” photo, Einstein gave him a good look and stuck his tongue out. You have to understand that this “tongue out” action came from one of the brilliant minds this world has ever produced and that tongue is no ordinary one. This photo told the whole world that even geniuses are dorks… duh!
