5. John Francis Spence
February 3, 1969 – December 21, 1987
John Francis Spence was the founding member of No Doubt. Gwen Stefani was actually a back up vocalist. He was also the one who came up with their name. “No doubt” was his favorite expression.
At the age of 18, Spence shot himself with a gun in a park located in Anaheim, California.
Gwen took over the role lead vocalist when Alan (a replacement)left the band. Alan wrote the song “Dear John” in tribute to John. In the booklet for No Doubt’s 1992 self-titled release, they dedicated it to John.
He didn’t leave any suicide note.
4. Simon Ritchie better known as Sid Vicious
May 10 1957 – February 2, 1979
Recognized as one of the best frontman and one of the most overrated artist. He had the attitude alright but he never learned how to play bass (although some claimed he eventually learned).
He got into drugs and alcohol. He was accused of stabbing his partner Nancy but he got out on bail. Eventually, he killed himself.
Suicide Note:
“We had a death
Pact
I have to keep
my half of the
bargain.
Please bury me
next to my baby.
Bury me in my
leather jacket,
jeans and motor
cycle boots.
Goodbye”
3. Rob Pilatus Milli Vanilli
June 8, 1965 – April 2, 1998
Before becoming a part of the ever popular lipsyncing duo, Milli Vanilli, he was a model, dancer and singer. Pilatus was best known as half of the pop music duo Milli Vanilli. It got so bad that when he was buried, people asked why they could be sure it was him. Would hymns be lip-synched at the funeral service?
His death was ruled an accident though. I included him in the list because I wanted to.
2. Sylvia Plath
Sylvia Plath is even more popular in her death. She was an author of many sad works such as The Bell Jar. As per Wikipedia, it has been suggested Plath’s suicide attempt was too precise and coincidental, and she had not intended to succeed in killing herself. Apparently, she had previously asked Mr. Thomas, her downstairs neighbor, what time he would be leaving; and a note had been placed that read “Call Dr. Horder” and listed his phone number. It is argued Plath must have turned the gas on at a time when Mr. Thomas should have been waking and beginning his day.
Also, an au pair was to arrive at nine o’clock that morning to help Plath with the care of her children. Upon arrival, the au pair could not get into the flat, but eventually got in with the help of a workman, Charles Langridge. They found Plath with her head still in the oven.
Her son Nicholas killed himself at his home in Alaska last year. Plath’s then husband Ted Hughes married for a second time. His second wife kiled herself and their 4-year old daughter in march 1969.
