Just because they are celebrities doesn’t mean they have a different kind of immune systems as we do. Celebrities do get sick just like we do. Sometimes, the ones they get are worse. Far worse.
However, it is nice to see them survive. Puts a little hope in us.
Here they are… the ones who suffered and survived.
10. Testicular Cancer: Lance Armstrong
Very people were willing to talk about testicular cancer before Lance Armstrong came along. However, when Lance Armstrong, the famous road racing cyclist, admitted that he suffered from the disease, the condition achieved instant celebrity.
Since then, Armstrong has become more than a spokesman bringing awareness of testicular cancer; he has started his own foundation, the Live Strong Foundation, for all types of cancer research, and single-handedly started a fashion trend for rubber bracelets to raise awareness of a cause.
9. Colorectal Cancer: Katie Couric
Katie Couric is known to be the first female news anchor for ABC. However, she is also known for bringing colorectal cancer to light.
She put together a special series for the “Today” show on colon cancer, and continues to be a spokesperson for the National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance, which she helped found.
8. Parkinson’s Disease: Michael J. Fox & Muhammad Ali
This degenerative disease did not get a lot of play on the national airwaves even when Muhammad Ali admitted to having it. Then, Michael J. Fox revealed that he suffers from the disease.
Michael J. Fox made drew even more attention to Parkinson’s — and created a controversy — when he appeared in ads about the disease and stem cell research, as well as appearing before Congress to give testimony, without taking the medication that keeps his tremors in check. He did so in order to provide a visual of what Parkinson’s disease does to the body.
7. Lupus: Seal
When Seal was younger, he was afflicted with an auto-immune condition known as discoid lupus erythometosus, which caused his immune cells to attack various body tissues, particularly around his face and scalp.
The condition led to his severe facial scarring.
6. Craniosynostosis: Jorge Posada
Jorge Posada has a child affected by craniosynostosis. This disease is defect of the brain that involves closure, prematurely, of the joints between the joints of skull.
Surgery can be used to help alleviate the problem, but it is expensive. Posada set up a foundation designed to help provide emotional support and financial assistance to families affected by this problem.

Why space the lists over three pages. I’m a lazy bastard and hate needless clicking. Surely they can fit on one slightly longer page. Thanks for your time.
I share the Running Doc’s opinion on this topic. Indeed, I have been dsenppoiatid over the past few years as I have read multiple quality scientific studies that show no benefit of many types of vitamins and supplements. Let’s focus on the basics healthy diet, plenty of exercise, don’t smoke, lose weight if overweight (obesity increases the risk of breast and other cancers, heart disease, and many other ailments). FYI, postmenopausal women also need to be aware that hormone replacement therapy increases the risk of breast cancer, so patients who choose to take these (after discussion with their doctor) should use the lowest possible dose for the shortest possible time (no more than a few years). This advice goes for both prescriptions AND ALL over-the-counter (e.g. natural , plant , bio-identical , etc.) hormone supplements.
The silliness never ends with the beelcrity shilling. The walks, the ribbons, etc but nobody talks about prevention as the best cure. Prevention doesn’t come with beelcrity endorsements.
