5. Sally Field
Sally Field’s speech in 1984 lasted all but one minute where she managed to thank everyone she needed to think but the most memorable part was the sincerity and vulnerability that she showed when she admitted what everyone wants, to be loved by everyone.
The Speech Highlight: I haven’t had an orthodox career and I’ve wanted more than anything to have your respect. The first time, I didn’t feel it, but this time I feel it and I can’t deny the fact that you like me, right now, you like me! Thank you.
This video was taken down by youtube so just watch her first win for Norma Rae.
4. Gwyneth Paltrow
In her most shining moment, she thanked her idol Meryl Streep and her family. She loves her family. It was so sincere, everyone watching felt it.
The Speech Highlight: To the greatest one who ever was, Meryl Streep… I would not have play this role had I not understood love of a tremendous magnitude and for that I would like to thank my family, my mother, Blibe(?) Tanner whom I love more than anything… grandpapa I want you to know that you’ve created a beautiful family who loves you and loves each other more than anything and we thank you for that.
3. Halle Berry
Berry was the first African American woman to have won a Best Actress trophy. She knew that event was really bigger than her. Her speech lasted three times longer than it was supposed to be but no one mind. Oh, you have to watch the movie too, Monster Ball.
The Speech Highlight: This moment is so much bigger than me… It’s for every nameless, faceless woman of color that now has a chance because this door tonight has been opened.
Her speech is not on youtube but watch the Tyra Banks Show where she talked about that momentous event.
2. Louise Fletcher
In 1975, Louise Fletcher received an Oscar® for her leading role in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. It was humorous, sincere and short. Her beginning was a little odd, “Well, it looks like you all hated me so much that you’ve given me this award for it, and I’m loving every minute of it. And, all I can say is, I’ve loved being hated by you.” However, her ending was the most touching thing every done in the Oscar franchise. Her parents are deaf and mute. After asking the audience to excuse her, she started signing for them.
The Speech Highlight: After saying a few quick thanks, she then ends her speech by revealing something very personal and somewhat surprising, “And, if you’ll excuse me [using sign language], for my mother and my father I want to say thank you for teaching me to have a dream. You are seeing my dream come true. Thank you.”
