Did you know that Michael Phelps was autistic? In an interview with Bob Costas his mother said he was ADHD as a child and swimming helped him to focus and redirect his attention, which is very important when it comes to children with ADHD.
Unlike others who have extreme difficulty focusing, organizing, and completing certain mundane tasks, Phelps got the other end of the deal, he had HYPERFOCUS. He is able to focus intently on other activities that interest them. This tendency to become absorbed in tasks that are stimulating and rewarding is called hyperfocus.
10. Heterochromia Iridum
About This Human Abormality
Eye color is a manifestation of the pigment that is present in the iris. Brown eyes are rich in melanin deposits, and blue eyes indicate a lack of melanin. Two genes control eye color: EYCL3, found on chromosome 15, which codes for brown/blue eye color (BEY), and EYCL1, found on chromosome 19, which codes for green/blue eye color (GEY). The result from increased or decreased pigmentation of the iris. Most cases are isolated and sporadic, conceivably resulting from an alteration in the expression of the above-mentioned genes (and those we have yet to find) within the cells of the entire iris or even a particular section. Other potential causes include trauma around the time of birth or later in life, congenital pigmented nevi or even medications such as those used in the treatment of glaucoma.

Benefits Of This Abormality
It’s just extremely sexy to have to eye color and a little beat freaky which only makes it sexier. You have some kind of a vampire thingie going on and a hint of mystery.
9. Absolute Pitch
About This Human Abormality
All babies start out in life with perfect pitch – the ability to identify a note without any reference sounds – but only a few continue to possess it in later life, according to the latest findings of research
into why only one in 10,000 people retains this unusual talent. A study of eight-month-old babies found that all possess perfect pitch which is lost within a few years. Only a tiny minority of people –
which has included Mozart, J S Bach, Yehudi Menuhin, Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra – are able to keep their innate ability to determine perfect pitch.

Benefits Of This Abormality
It could only mean you have the potential to be a Mozart or a Frank Sinatra if you want to be a bit more contemporary.
8. Chimera
About This Human Abormality
A human chimera is made up of two sets of cells with DNA as different as any two siblings’ DNA. This is because a chimera is the result of fraternal twins fusing together at a very early stage in
development. This can happen because early on, embryos are made up of embryonic stem (ES) cells. ES cells have not yet committed to being any specific kind of cell so having a few extra or missing
cells is well tolerated. At this stage, it is OK to remove a cell for genetic testing (called preimplantation genetic diagnosis or PGD). Or to combine two sets of ES cells to create a chimera. Combining two sets of ES cells with different DNA has no consequences for the new chimera. Unless they are of different sexes in which case the chimera may end up a hermaphrodite. Or unless the chimera is getting a DNA test done.

Stories Of This Abormality
A DNA test is usually done by taking some blood or cheek cells and looking at the DNA. This is fine if the person has the same DNA in every cell (which is usually the case). But a chimera can run into problems. Because different body cells will have different DNA, it is possible that a DNA test can give incorrect results for a chimera. Imagine that a woman has one set of DNA in her cheek or kidney cells and a different set in her eggs.
7. Cleft Chin
About This Human Abormality
In normal human fetal development, the right and left sides of the lower half of the jaw fuse together before birth. When the fusion of the two sides doesn’t take place properly, the baby is born with a cleft chin. Every person inherits two sets of genes that determine the shape of their chin, one from each parent. If you happened to inherit two genes for cleft chin, then your children will have the same trait. However, if you only inherited one gene for cleft chin and one for a smooth chin, then your children may not all have this trait.
Benefits Of This Abormality
You will be in the same league as John Travolta, Elisha Cuthbert, Aaron Eckhart, and Viggo Mortensen. Unfortunately, the gene doesn’t come with their talent. You need to source that on your own.
6. Bipolar
About This Human Abormality
Bipolar disorder is a condition in which people go back and forth between periods of a very good or irritable mood and depression. The “mood swings” between mania and depression can be very quick. Types of bipolar disorder:
* People with bipolar disorder type I have had at least one manic episode and periods of major depression. In the past, bipolar disorder type I was called manic depression.
* People with bipolar disorder type II have never had full mania. Instead they experience periods of high energy levels and impulsiveness that are not as extreme as mania (called hypomania). These periods alternate with episodes of depression.
* A mild form of bipolar disorder called cyclothymia involves less severe mood swings. People with this form alternate between hypomania and mild depression. People with bipolar disorder type II or cyclothymia may be wrongly diagnosed as having depression.

Imagine having the same disorder as Catherine Zeta – Jones, Marilyn Monroe, and Kurt Cobain?

Bi-polar is a top 10 best abnormality? There is nothing good about being Bi-polar. It is a disease that claims many lives. You make Bi-polar sound like something everyone should have. There is nothing good about this disease. Just look at Kurt Cobain. You need to remove Bi-polar from your list. Like I said there is nothing good about being Bi-polar. You naming it one of the top ten best human abnormality is nothing but a slap in the face to those who have it.
Are you Bi-polar?
Bipolar is romanticized by people like Sylvia Plath (suicide) and Robert Lowell (suicide). Maybe 1% of people with Bipolar have a book in them (they write as they suffer); the other 99% just suffer. You sound like you’ve watched too many Hollywood movies. It’s like placing poison on your Top 10 List of good things to eat.
Unbelievable!
Bipolar should be removed from this list. Death from manic exhaustion was a very common cause for those in asylums and 30% attemp at least once. Over 30% of people with bipolar abuse drugs and alcohol.
The destruction of full blown mania is a god thing?
Psychosis is horrible how it can be presented otherwise is beyond me.
Bipolar should be replaced with synesthesia considering the fondness towards memory. I remember Marilu Henner with hyperthymesia on 60 Minutes when she said she could not forget the worst day of her life and suffered depression and anxiety most of her life. How is that something to envy.
This is a list created by people who obviously have none of the conditions listed.
Imagine having the same disorder as Catherine Zeta – Jones, Marilyn Monroe, and Kurt Cobain? — I don’t have to imagine as I live this every day and It’s no walk in the park by any stretch of the imagination. It’s a disease that could have taken my life on more than one occasion and a disease that has sent me into the deepest depressions and the highest manias, both of which wreck my life every time they occur. I have been hospitalised twice due to being able to function and have suffered psychosis which was one of the scariest times in my life.
Think this is cool, then I suggest you re-evaluate your list and speak to people who actually have to live with this hell…
Absolutely disgusting…
Bipolar is not a fun disease. The depression is crippling and the mania is horrible – think rage, impulsivity that lease to jail, hospitalization, destroyed relationships. Imagine switching between these two, with no “normal” in between. Imagine it happening several times a year, several times a month, and for some of us, several times a day. It feels like one moment you genuinely want to kill yourself, and the next, you genuinely want to hurt those closest to you.
To be quite honest with you, I know your all going to hate me for saying this… bipolar is tough… no doubt and we live every day of our lives struggling but positive things have come out of it. I’m unique… my mind works better then most people I know. I’m smart, I’m witty, so for that I take a little depression, a little mania… sometimes both… sometimes I’m miserable but theres no reason to be ashamed, theres no reason to think of it as something bad. We’re not dying. We don’t have an illness thats killing us. (read this list it will amaze you)
FAMOUS BIPOLAR PEOPLE: DMX (rapper/songwriter), Mel Gibson, Macy Gray, Earnest Hemingway, Patrick J. Kennedy, Demi Lovato (disney star), Edgar Allen Poe, AXL rose (guns n roses), Frank Sinatra, Pete Wentz (musician Fall out Boy), Virginia Woof (writer), Scott Weiland (lead singer of Stone temple pilots & Velvet Revolver), Catherine Zeta-Jones
All these people are so wonderfully gifted and the face(d) the same things we do every day, they are all brilliant people. This is why its looked at as a good human abnormality… because these are only like 15% of the list that have accomplished great things while being bipolar.
It sucks, it does but why be so angry about it, almost every bipolar person I’ve come across has been gifted in some kind of way. We struggle but we’re special. Don’t get angry about this article… some very brilliant minds have been bipolar. We’re a special breed, don’t get your panties in a bunch. I think it belongs on this list. It makes us unique, and special.
Bipolar Disorder is not like having a cleft chin or a good memory! Only one of these great “human abnormalities” results in a very high suicide rate, an extremely high divorce rate, involuntary hospitalizations, and all around suffering for the individual and her or his loved ones. You might as well add prostate cancer and post-traumatic stress disorder to this list…. Please educate yourself a little bit before you make these lists.
I have two different kinds of thumb (straight and a hitch hikers thumb) and my hair grows longer on one side of my head than it does on the other. I have read before about chimeras and the thought crossed my mind before that i might be one. What do you lot think?
Why is synaesthesia not on this list? It is way cooler that bi-polarism
I agree… Bipolar should be taken off of the list. It is in no way a good thing to have.
One of my best friends Kate has a cleft chin, she hates it but she is so pretty and it only adds to her beauty! I wish I had one.
Yes please take bipolar off this list. I live with someone who is bipolar and even with mediation it s a living hell. Unpredictable violence and rages, unable to control impulses about money and spending, sex
