Top 10 Best Drummers Of All Time

Top 10 Best Drummers Of All Time

Before I piss you off with the list, here are some really funny jokes about drummers:

* What’s the best way to confuse a drummer? Put a piece of sheet music in front of him.

* What’s the difference between a drummer and a savings bond? One will mature and make money.

* What did the drummer say to the band leader? Do you want me to play too fast or too slow?

* Did you hear about the bass player who locked his keys in the car? He had to break the car window to get the drummer out.

On with the list… send in the love.

10. Roger Meddows-Taylor

Band: The Queen

Style: It is amazing how Queen was able to to stay together as a band until the dying days of Freddie Mercury. None of the band members denied that they are one of the few bands where all members are alpha males. They have never denied the fighting that goes on in every recording and rehearsal. However, they all attribute their longevity to the fact hat none of them are insecure about their talents.

Taylor, for one, has often been credited for being the only drummer who can carry a song with only his drumming. His sounds always has an identity in ever song. He has never done a part that is generic.

9. Ginger Baker

Band: Cream

Style: Famous for his use of two bass drums instead of only one. He is also one of the most prolific as he can play both rock and jazz genres. Baker is very much influenced by British jazz groups he heard during the late 50s and early 60s. He has developed and made popular lengthy drum solos. His standard time is five minutes but some people claim he has gone as far as 15 minutes. His ability to combine rock, jazz and African rhythms allows him to carry on these lengthy solos. He would often emphasize the flam, a drum rudiment where both sticks would attack the drums at almost the same time to give a heavy thunderous sound.

8. Ian Paice

Band: Deep Purple

Style: Many regard him as the heavy version of Ringo. Some also claim that he has the fastest hand among all professional drummers.

7. Lars Ulrich

Band: Metallica

Style: Ulrich is known for having some of the most complicated beats. He, however, simplified his style when the band simplified his music. This decade, he has returned to his roots upon the return of Metallica to their original heavy sound. They said that Ulrich has no signature sound and has consciously veered away from being identified to any style.

6. Joey Jordison or #1

Band: Slipknot

Style: Some solid rock fans question the legitimacy of the slipknot as a band claiming they are more famous for their gimmick of wearing masks rather than the greatness of the music. I will not join that debate. I will say this much, he is one of the fastest drummers who has ever walked the earth. Here are some facts lifted from drummerworld.com:
* His mask is a white japanese expressionless kabuki mask, now painted with black scars and fake Blood. He has long black hair with vivid red-steaks.
* He’s the most talkative member of the group
* He is also the creator of the tribal S symbol for the band.
* Joey is known for being one of the fastest drummers in metal history.
* He was one of the original members of Slipknot, and drummed for MFKR
* Rips off the arms and legs of his suit, because its easier to drum.
* He is talkitive, diminutive, and just really down to earth.
* He writes a lot of their songs, including Scissors.
* He mixed the self titled album.
